A delightful goal by Harvey Brown, deep into injury time, saw Buckhurst Hill win their first-ever Step 4 league away game, with 3 valuable points on Canvey Island.
Manager Mark Williams made changes from Saturday’s FA Cup defeat, with Alex Caras, Callum Maltese, and Shane Temple returning to the line-up, with Kacper Bialek given his first start for the club.
It was a frantic start by both sides, with the home side going close in the first 20 seconds. Buckhurst Hill started to settle, and on 11 minutes, a good run by defender George Edwards found captain Ollie Williams, who could not finish. A few minutes later Williams again hit wide from a corner. Concord had a good chance on 19 when Toheeb Elegushi headed just wide from a corner. On 25, Ollie Williams was again in the thick of the action when he saw his header go close. After a succession of corners, striker Shane Temple saw his fierce effort deflected wide. This was a good period for the Stags. New signing Kacper Bialek saw a low effort wide of the post.
Buckhurst Hill did break the deadlock on 37 when a long through ball from George Edwards found Temple to collect and fire home from just inside the box, to take a well-deserved lead.
Bialek looked to increase the lead just before the break, but home keeper Charlie Brown saved well.
Straight after the break, Concord attacked in numbers and saw new signing Mekhi McKenzie fire towards goal, but denied by a good save by Alex Caras.
Home midfielder Andrew Sesay had a good chance on 52, but blazed over. On 69, Arthur Massingham cut inside and saw his effort go past the post. Both sides made substitutions as both teams began to tire on a warm evening.
In the first minute of injury time, Buckhurst Hill’s hearts were broken when a speculative cross found McKenzie in space to tap home. Both sides continued to push hard for a goal.
With the clock ticking over to minute 90, substitute Max Gnandi was upended outside the box, and with the final kick of the game, Harvey Brown stepped up and curled home, to the delighted Buckhurst Hill support in attendance. In the final seconds, both sides held the ball well before the referee blew the final whistle.
