The rain eased for Sunday’s second-round league cup victory against Hashtag United Yellow at Barleylands Farm, which saw the Lionesses progress onwards.

A sluggish start was brightened with a low drive from Anya Ali to open the scoring. Shortly after Jasleen Bhamber doubled the lead before Anya added another to her tally. It looked to be four, before Monica Wickham’s pass was adjudged to have been offside.

The second half saw a more resolute Lionesses display, with this season’s top scorer, Josie Cornerford, scoring. Jasleen Bhamber completed proceedings with her second. Anya and Alexi Bettis were lively on either flank and if not for a very capable Hashtag United goalkeeper, the score line would have been heftier. At the rear guard, Seren Williams was back to her industrious self, and Evie Achamfour-Yeboah pulled off a great save to keep the clean sheet intact.

While perhaps not at our best, the quest for silverware remains very much on.
