Buckhurst Hill FC 0 – 0 Stansted FC

Report by Anthony Mercer

After a string of wins and losses, Buckhurst Hill drew for the third consecutive game running, with another clean sheet and a good crowd.
Manager Mark Williams gave a debut to Danny Smith, a recent signing from Stanway Rovers. Buckhurst Hill looked lively early on with Nathan Sollosi hitting from a distance that took a deflection before Bademosi fired just wide from a Nathan Sollosi mazy run. It was all Stags pressure with Sollosi again in the thick of the action shooting wide.

Stansted had a good opportunity on 12 when Jack Mitchell struck the post after a defensive mistake. On 29 a cross from Halford saw Bademosi fire over.
The second half finished the way the first half ended, with a midfield battle with strong defending. On 66 Sonny Shilling did have the ball in the back of the net but was ruled out for offside. Buckhurst Hill did have a very good shout for a penalty when Nathan Sollosi crossed into the box and the ball came off the defender’s leg and was controlled by the hand. The assistant referee judged it to hit the knee. Buckhurst Hill finished strongly with lots of possession. In the final minute, substitute Conor Tyrrell hit across the goal and it just needed a touch, but just evaded the outstretched leg.

The result sees The Stags move up one spot to 12th. Buckhurst Hill’s next game sees them entertain local rivals Woodford Town this coming Tuesday 7.45 pm kick-off. After the game, Manager Mark Williams commented “I thought we played some great passing football at times. Very slick and with better finishing we would have won the game easily. We turned the screw in the second half and only one team was in the ascendancy. Yet again poor decisions cost us. Sonny was not offside when we had the ball in the net and it’s as blatant a handball as you will see when Nathan crossed.
I was very pleased with the group. There is a real togetherness at the moment and a pleasure to be involved with them”
