Woodford Town 1 – 1 Buckhurst Hill

Report by Anthony Mercer

Buckhurst Hill earned a good point away to in-form local rivals Woodford Town in a game of two halves.
Buckhurst Hill went into the game without centre-half Danny Smith and striker Ezekiel Bademosi and from the off, Woodford put the Stags under pressure. On 7′ captain Georges Kebi saw the home side go close when he fired at goal, with Adi Connolly out of his goal.

Woodford took the lead on 16′ when they broke in numbers and Alie Bangura latched on and fired well into the net for a fine goal. Woodford had lots of possession. On 22′ Adi Connolly made a brilliant save from a Lee Sharpe header to keep Buckhurst Hill in the game. Buckhurst Hill’s first real chance fell to defender Bradleigh Rowland on 22′, before Alfie Harris cleared another Woodford effort off the line when Jaedon Phillips thought he had scored. Just before the break Sam Sollosi went close, with Eddie Allan making a fine save.

Early in the second half, Harris again cleared off the line from a Bangura effort but Buckhurst Hill did grow into the game and Sam Sollosi found himself in space but fired over. Buckhurst Hill had a period of being on the back foot but held out well defensively.

Buckhurst Hill drew level on 79′ when a corner found Nathan Sollosi outside the box and he fired low into the net, with a slight deflection for a deserved goal.

Buckhurst Hill were on the front foot and had late chances to take all the points. Connolly in the visitor’s goal, did make a good save with just 2 minutes to go. After the game, Manager Mark Williams commented “I am pleased how we reacted to our first half display. We did not deal with Woodford’s set pieces, but looked the stronger side in the second half and earned a hard-fought point against an in-form side. Thanks to the supporters travelling in good numbers to the game”
