It was an afternoon to forget for Buckhurst Hill, as the Stags suffered a heavy 0-5 defeat to Woodford Town in the Roding Valley Derby.
Despite starting rather brightly and controlling possession in the opening minutes it didn’t take long for Woodford to hit the ground running. Nathan Sollosi, formerly of Buckhurst Hill hit the first goal of his brace as he broke down the left before finishing neatly past Reed and it didn’t take the visitors long to double their lead…Luke Parrott latching onto a through ball before firing home.
A moment of madness from substitute Max Nicholson after 43 minutes saw him sent off, despite not being on the pitch. After delaying the restart and then applauding the referee, he was shown two yellow cards in under 30 seconds and was subsequently dismissed. Buckhurst Hill’s best chance of game came through left back Callum Berg – he rocketed an effort towards the goal but his shot came cannoning back off the crossbar and away from any danger.
Just moments later, Sollosi grabbed his second and sent the Woods three goals ahead as we headed into half time. The story was pretty much the same in the second half, with Woodford dominating and attacking for large spells and if it wasn’t for Reed in goal for Buckhurst Hill, then it could have ended up being a far bigger scoreline. Just after the hour mark Woodford added a fourth goal through tricky winger Ernest Okoh and with one minute left of the ninety, Luke Parrott grabbed his second of the afternoon to round off the scoring.
Deep into added time, Buckhurst Hill’s day became even worse. Manny Phagura kicked out at his opponent after he didn’t get the decision he wanted and he was shown a second yellow card and was sent off. Overall, a very disappointing afternoon for The Stags and one that they will quickly want to put behind them as the search for a first win of the Essex Senior League season goes on.
