Buckhurst Hill 3 – 0 Athletic Newham
Stags Scorers:
Marko Protic, Own Goal, Kian Connolly

Report by Harrison Nathan

‘The Stags’ made it three wins from the last three, as goals from Marko Protic and Kian Connolly, either side of an own goal saw Buckhurst Hill win 3-0 at Myrak Park.

Similarly to Saturday, the hosts started the game on the front foot however this time, they managed to find an early goal! With just eight minutes gone, they took the lead via a corner routine straight off the training pitch. A one-two on the edge of the box before the cross was delivered towards Marko Protic, his header finding the top corner to give the home side the perfect start!

Mark Williams’ side didn’t stop there, as they looked for a second goal to give them some breathing space. With seven minutes to go before half-time, Callum Berg was released down the left-hand side, he delivered a peach of a cross towards the back post where Owen Betts met the ball and saw his effort bundled over the line by a Newham defender to double the lead.

The visitors came out after the break looking for a way back into the game, however, a combination of good defending and wastefulness meant that there was no way through.

Buckhurst Hill also had some good chances, the goalkeeper denying Marko Protic from just seven yards out and Zudhu missing a golden opportunity just four minutes later…

Time was running out for Athletic Newham to find a way back into this contest and after commuting players forward in the hope of a late comeback, they were made to pay. In the last minute of injury time, Mansaray and Connolly linked up and the latter scored to seal a magnificent victory for Buckhurst Hill!

Three wins in a row and two clean sheets in a row, after a difficult start to the season things are now looking very positive for Mark Williams and his side.

COME ON YOU STAGS!
