Buckhurst Hill U15 Lionesses 2 – 0 Bowers & Pitsea U15 girls
Back in November, the U15 Lionesses played out a 2 – 1 away defeat to Tigers. Then followed a heavy loss to AFC Leyton. The season was in danger of fizzling out, with tough games ahead.
However, in the five seasons these girls have now been together, they always seem to dig deep, regroup, and prove any doubters wrong. A 0 – 4 away win to Billericay was eclipsed by a great 2 – 0 home win against league leaders Bowers & Pitsea, at Deben Park High School, securing the double over our opponents.
Bowers started strongly and meant business. There’s a reason they’ve won eight games this season. However, our girls stuck to their task, and Lexi Yeo stuck a boot out, to wrongfoot the keeper and make it 1 – 0. The Stags continued to push on, and Ciara Weekes made it two with a deft finish and drive from distance to make it two.
The second half saw more of the same, although the Lionesses couldn’t find the net, despite a great shot from Jasleen Bhamber, which the keeper was equal to, and Anya Ali’s frustration as her placed shot came back off the foot of the post.
A resolute and disciplined performance sees the girls close the gap at the top, with the prospect of a top-three finish in the top division a real possibility, having only been promoted last season.
