After a wonderful cup run, the Stags bow out of the BBC Essex Senior Cup at the quarter-final stage against League Two side Colchester United. Despite the result, every single player, fan and staff member can leave the JobServe Community Stadium with their heads held high.

The U’s started on the front foot and took the lead through former Tottenham youngster Chay Cooper after 31 minutes. Rushton produced a double save before the attacker found the back of the net, and the ‘keeper was in fine form throughout the first half.

First-team regular Brad Ihionvien doubled the lead just before the hour mark before Oscar Thorn added a third just ten minutes after coming on.

The Stags got one back through Suley Zuhdu, who made his return to the team after injury. The ball was knocked back down the striker and he lashed an effort past Smith and into the back of the net!

After an incredible battle throughout the first seventy-five minutes, Williams’ men seemed to run out of steam towards the end of the content and the hosts ran away with it. Marshall-Miranda made it four before Cooper rounded off the scoring with a low free-kick.

An unbelievable effort from all involved, including the 162 Stags supporters who made the trip to Colchester on Tuesday night. They may not have come away with the result everyone dreamed of, but it’s a performance that everyone involved can be proud of, and a night that we’ll remember for a long time!

Looking ahead, the Buckhurst Hill camp is eagerly anticipating the next challenge. Manager Mark Williams expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s an extraordinary night for the club, and I couldn’t be prouder of the incredible effort put in by every single player, our dedicated staff, and the unwavering support from our fans. The camaraderie and determination displayed out there tonight were truly commendable. We eagerly anticipate the next challenge as we look forward to pitting our boys against a League 2 side. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Onward and upward!”.
