Grit, Goals & Weather-Beaten Weekends
Week 10 brought another lively weekend of grassroots football — even if the weather tried its best to shut everything down. Heavy rain and waterlogged pitches caused several postponements, but the teams who did play showed real character, quality and that unmistakable Buckhurst Hill spirit.
Despite the disruption, there were some brilliant performances across the club. The U11 Blues started slowly but came to life after half-time, tightening up their communication, strengthening midfield control and seeing Thiian steal the show with a superb hat-trick. The U11 Lionesses also delivered a huge shift, battling with only nine players and no substitutes in a display full of resilience that deserved a better outcome.
At U12 level, the Tigresses put on a dominant derby performance, sharp from kick-off and clinical in front of goal. Phoebe was immense at centre-back, Evelyn led the line superbly, and the team’s all-round intensity made for a convincing result despite the challenging weather.
The U14 Blacks also impressed, moving into the next round of the League Cup with a composed away performance. Meanwhile, the U15 Lionesses continued their strong form with another key win to stay top of the league, and the U18 Lionesses earned a battling point away from home to remain firmly in the mix.
There was further good news in the cup competitions, with the U18 Blues EJA producing a mature and clinical performance to progress. Strong defensive organisation, sharp movement and confident finishing made the difference as Denis netted a hat-trick, Jay added a double, and Johnny and Ted rounded off the scoring in a professional team display.
Even in tough conditions, there was plenty to admire: commitment from players, support from parents, and the dedication of coaches working tirelessly to keep football moving. A messy weekend weather-wise — but a proud one for the club.
Here’s hoping Week 11 brings drier pitches and even more action.
Up the Stags! 💙🖤
