Wednesday 1st April, 2026 | Buckhurst Hill 4 – 1 Halstead Town | ESL Premier League | Attendance : 101
By Anthony Mercer.
Buckhurst Hill kept up their play-off ambitions, with a 4-1 victory over bottom side Frenford.
The Stags made 8 changes from Tuesday’s Robert Errington cup defeat to Great Wakering Rovers.
The first action of the evening fell to the visitors when Correy Davidson fired straight at Christian North, before The stags had their own effort 2 minutes later from George Edwards. On 10 skipper Ollie Williams was denied by a fine save by Dominic Alexandru.
Buckhurst Hill then broke Frenford down just before the half hour when Nathan Sollosi played a through ball to Marko Protic who rounded the keeper to score.
On 37 Sollosi had his own effort, but saw his shot hit the post, after good work from Protic. Just seconds later, Sollosi made no mistake when his persistence paid off and ran through to score a fine goal.
Just 2 minutes later Frenford pulled a goal back when Buckhurst Hill did not clear and the ball fell to Non league prolific goal scorer David Knight who slotted into the net.
It was a slow start to the second period, but took Buckhurst Hill to introduce Callum Maltese and Dimitri Nicolau to the action and within a few minutes paid off when Maltese hit just wide, before Maltese set up Dimitri Nicolau who headed home, after a flick on from Harry Lusher.
Maltese then had his chance when he cut inside and fired off the post.
With just 5 minutes to go, Buckhurst Hill confirmed the points when super sub Nicolau struck an effort from distance that flew into the net. Nicolou almost scored his hat trick a minute later when he collected the ball just inside Frenford’s half and volleyed from distance with Alexandru scrambling to get back. The effort went just over the top. In the final minute the excellent Alexandru in the Frenford goal, made a brilliant save to deny Harry Lusher’s header. In the final few seconds, Lusher, Hammond and Fernandez all had good chances to put the game to bed.
The result saw Buckhurst Hill remain in 6th, with games in hand.
Buckhurst Hill now move on to play Athletic Newham in 48 hours.
After the game, a pleased Buckhurst Hill manager Mark Williams commented.
“Frenford is no easy game and worked hard against us. The Frenford keeper kept his side in the game with some very good saves. Following late substitutions, we killed the game off. At times, we rotated the ball well. Despite the number of changes to our lineup, it was a good 3 points.
