Youth Sides Return in Style as 2026 Gets Underway.
Buckhurst Hill’s youth teams made a welcome return to action over the weekend, with encouraging performances across the age groups as the club kicked off 2026 in positive fashion.
After a long winter break for many sides, the focus was firmly on rediscovering rhythm, reinforcing good habits, and building momentum for the months ahead — and there were plenty of signs that the hard work on the training ground is beginning to show.
Across the younger age groups, the emphasis remained on development and enjoyment, with U7s through to U12s showing real progress in their football, attitude and understanding. Several teams returned after weeks without competitive action and adapted well, displaying strong work ethic, resilience and a clear desire to play the right way, even in difficult conditions.
At U13 level and above, the competitive edge was clear. The U13 Lionesses set the tone with an excellent 7–2 victory over West Essex, producing a passing display that earned praise from the opposition and underlined the strength of the club’s footballing philosophy. Elsewhere, the U13 Royals were unfortunate to suffer a narrow late defeat after a committed performance against strong opposition.
The older age groups continued to show maturity and character. The U15 Blacks marked their return with a solid home win, responding well after a long break, while the U16 Blacks, despite facing the league leaders, showed great attitude and togetherness, refusing to let their heads drop and continuing to work for one another throughout.
There were also standout performances among the girls’ teams, with the U11 Lionesses delivering an outstanding display in their first match following promotion, and the Tigresses at U10 and U12 level continuing to demonstrate why they are among the most exciting teams at the club, combining determination with quality football.
Perhaps most encouraging of all was the consistency of effort and commitment across every squad. Whether results went their way or not, players showed pride in wearing the badge, coaches reinforced positive standards, and families once again provided brilliant support from the sidelines.
With the new year now underway, Buckhurst Hill’s youth section looks well placed to build on a strong foundation. Development remains the priority, performances are trending in the right direction, and the sense of togetherness across the club continues to grow.
2026 is off to a promising start.
