Barking up the wrong tree

Saturday 9th August, 2025 | Barking FC 4-1 Buckhurst Hill | Attendance : 72

By Anthony Mercer

Three goals in six minutes, either side of half-time, saw Barking see off an underperforming Buckhurst Hill side on Saturday.

Goals from Charlie Morris and Ramiah Mills before the break were followed quickly in the second half by Alfie Attrill and another from Mills, securing all three points for the home side.

Both teams started brightly with some good attacking play. Barking had the first effort of the afternoon in the 19th minute, when Edwards cut the ball back to Nyanja on the edge of the box, but his shot was just wide. Barking did take the lead in the 22nd minute when former Stag Tyreece Robertson drove down the left wing and crossed for Charlie Morris to slide home.

Buckhurst Hill’s only serious attempt of the half came when Youcef Tacine’s soft effort was saved following a good passage of build-up play.

In the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, the home side struck again. Robertson played a well-weighted ball through to Ramiah Mills, who beat his defender before hitting a low, hard shot across goalkeeper Christian North into the net.

Things got even worse for Buckhurst Hill after the restart. Within seconds it was 3-0, as the Stags failed to clear their lines and the ball found Arthur Jeans, who headed it on to an unmarked Alfie Attrill. Through on goal, Attrill volleyed into the net.

In the 52nd minute, a splitting pass from Edwards found Mills on the right. He drove into the box and slotted past North at his near post for his second goal of the game.

A double substitution from Buckhurst Hill saw them grow into the game, and in the 59th minute Demetri Nicoloau converted a cross at the far post to make it 4-1. The visitors created two further chances: in the 77th minute substitute Alfie Padington fired just wide after some good build-up play, and shortly after Alfie Harris was played in over the top but saw his effort drift narrowly off target. The last chance of the afternoon fell to Barking’s Max Harbrow, whose curling effort went just wide of the post.

The result saw Buckhurst Hill drop three places in the league, but they will look to make amends on Tuesday night with a local derby away to Frenford.
