Barking FC 1 – 1 Buckhurst Hill FC

Report by Anthony Mercer

Buckhurst Hills’ recent poor run, came to an end with a worthy point at Barking, in a game they had the chances to take all 3 points.

Buckhurst Hill flew out of the blocks, seeing Brad Rowland unleashing an effort that was well-tipped wide by Simson. Barking went close on 9 minutes when George Okoye saw his curling effort well saved by returning keeper Adi Connolly.

Captain for the day Danny Smith almost finished off a good move when just failing to connect.

Buckhurst Hill looked most likely to score and saw Sonny Shilling blaze over before another Shilling effort was denied by the post, but Nathan Sollosi followed up to head into an empty net.

Barking did come out after the break stronger which saw Dan Brock go close. On 53 Eljay Worrell’s 20-yard free kick went just wide.

Buckhurst Hill’s Brad Rowland was sin-binned on 62 and the home side took advantage. 4 minutes later Barking levelled when a loose ball into the box found the feet of Jess Norey who bundled home.

The introduction of Harry Markatis almost paid off, as his first touch saw him fire just over.

In the final minute, the home side had the ball in the net when Worrell poked home, only for the offside flag to be raised. The final action of the afternoon, in an entertaining finish, saw Worrell’s shot brilliantly saved by Connolly when he tipped wide a certain goal.

On Wednesday night, Buckhurst Hill will travel to Parkside to play Isthmian League Premier side Aveley in the Essex Thames-side Trophy, before welcoming Saffron Walden on Saturday.
After the game, Manager Mark Williams commented “Was pleased to get a point and pleased to see an improved performance from the lads. A well-deserved point and I hope we can finish the season well”
