Match report by Ella Hargrave

The weather was sunny with no clouds and a mild breeze. Kick-off was at 10 am against Corringham Athletic Youth Football Club U9. They fielded a mixed team with two girls. The pitch was on a slope and felt like a smaller pitch. Goals were low but wide. The state of the pitch was bad , with plenty of holes that were being fixed by a gardener.

After kick off Kaitlin was strong on the right side. Lyla got the ball, lost it, and won it back again, showing great persistence. Buckhurst Hill was very resilient in the opening minutes. Quite a lot of throw ins. Our defenders were all moving in formation. Gwen was fantastic at keeping the ball and pushing up. Holly was great at dribbling.

Isobella passed to Lina, Lina passed to Kaitlin, the opposition won the ball back. A shot on target was bravely blocked by Lina. Corringham got there first goal with long shot from the midline that Izzy almost saved. This was quickly followed by another long range goal to make it 2:0.

Lina got us back in the game after converting a free kick from Holly. 2:1 and game on again. There were a lot of slide tackles and long range kicks. Good chance by Holly, good runs by Gwen, strong defending by Helena.

Overall a good response after the goal. Amelie then played as captain and was fouled. Lina almost scored from a free kick. It was inches wide. A closely fought first half. We played up the hill in the second half. Strong effort and runs by Marie who gave their number 11 a taste of his own medicine.

Skills all around. Some strong shots and defending from Lilian. Ella delivered a series of throw ins into the opponents half. Unfortunately a long range goal was scored by Corringham. We were 3:1 down.

The last 10 minutes were back to back and quite frantic. Amazing save by Isobella who was 1 on 1 with their No 10. Almost 3:2 by Amelie. Some dangerous tackles in the end by naughty no 11 but we stayed strong as a team and can be proud of our performance.

Come on you stags!!!
